I guess I read it on the wall of Centre Pompidou: “It’s what I do that teaches me what I’m looking for.” What OK Do set out to explore from the very beginning was the roles and methods of the ‘new designer’, and like Pierre Soulages (1953), the French painter behind the quote, we started by doing. Constantly revisiting the topic on a conceptual level, too – most recently in a discussion about the contemporary ambiguity of a designer identity at one of the OK Talk events in London or an article about being sick with design – and coming across presentations, exhibitions and publications around the evolution and redefinition of the field, we decided to document our (quite random) observations.
